Since 1990, IMAGE organizes each year its Summer School in Carcassonne. These sessions give the academics and professionals the opportunity to meet each other so as to create a special link and to favour exchange and tarinig.

Carcassonne and its medieval city of the 11th and
13th centuries is an architectural whole quite unique in Europe that
dominates a valley which the various landscapes and prestigious places,
cathar castles, villages, abbeys, vineyards, allow lots of historical
or gastronomic discoveries and make of it a UNESCO World Heritage Site,
known all over the world. Our summer school in data Analysis occurs
in this beautiful setting in August, 2004.
The accomodation, lectures and meals occur in an antique abbey located very close to the city of Carcassonne.For those who want, an excursion to discover Aude is proposed. A Aude wine-tasting session will be organized to make you know about the flavor and sensuality of the area’s wineyards. The welcome dinner is offered by the organization team to favor exchange and make you discover one of the more prestigious gastronomic restaurant in the area.

The Summer School in Textual Data Analysis is a meeting, communication and knowledge acquisition sharing place.
The Textual Data Analysis, or textual statistics, allow to quantify a text so as to extract the strongest significant structures so as to draw the essential information contained in the textual data.
The textual statistics is more and more a key way for all
who have texts corpus analysis to do : open questions from socioeconomic
surveys, interviews analysis, reports of meetings, documents, litterature
works , etc
Our Summer School, centered on the methodology ‘ALCESTE’ ( Max Reinert),
answers to that need. This methodology, as other works in that field (Ludovic
Lebart, André Salem), is inspired from Jean Paul Benzécri
works on the Textual Data Analysis. It aims at finding an objective speech
analysis procedure by the study of the distributions.
The objective of this summer school is to give each participant
the opportunity to have a complete viewpoint on the state of the art in
T.D.A, develop the autonomy to process own data and acquire a relevant
methodology in adequacy with each one‘s needs.
Courses are spread over the three days.On mornings,
there are theory courses and conferences and on afternoons, practical
works in the computing work-groups in which you can work until 10 p.m
.
Max Reinert (CNRS) is the scientific responsable for these
courses .Computer engineers specialzed in textual engineering are in charge
of the practical works in work-groups
The lecturers are academics and professionals who use the Textual Data Analysis in various fields.
The putting into practice of the course is done in computing
work-groups during which you can bring your own data base and analyse
it at the same time as the data proposed in the Summer School.
